About Artist

Anwar (born 1964, Ambha, Madhya Pradesh; lives and works in Delhi) approaches abstraction with a deep belief that the search for narrative or literal meaning often diminishes the true experience of art. For him, painting is not an act of representation but one of wonder, intuition, and discovery.

His practice is marked by a prolific and almost daily engagement with colour, across canvas, paper, collage, and mixed media. These works emerge in the quiet privacy of his studio and are conceived as what he describes as an “occurrence of intuition”, moments in which a deeply internal and personal visual language reveals itself.

Rather than striving to depict the external world, Anwar’s abstraction operates beyond narrative and form. His works communicate through gesture, colour, rhythm, and spatial tension, inviting contemplation rather than explanation. In this sense, his practice aligns abstraction with ideas of order, purity, simplicity, and spirituality, allowing the viewer to encounter the work without prescription, and to experience it on an instinctive and emotional plane.
