Venkat Bothsa (b. 1961) is a celebrated Indian sculptor known for his exuberant, larger-than- life fiberglass figures that fuse mythology with cinematic fantasy. A graduate of Andhra University (BFA) and Banaras Hindu University(MFA), Bothsa creates brightly colored, richly embellished forms drawn from nature, cityscapes, advertising, Bollywood, and global pop culture. At first playful and familiar, his works reveal a surreal edge on closer view.
His work has featured in many prominent group exhibitions across the country. He has participated in major workshops and residencies, including the International Artists’Workshop in Orissa (1995), the 10th Triennale International Sculptors’ Workshop organized by the Lalit Kala Akademi, Chandigarh (2001). Over his career, he has designedand worked with tribal art and life museums for the Andhra Government and produced hundreds of commissioned sculptures and installations for public and private collections across India and abroad. Bothsa has presented four solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows in major Indian cities as well as in Los Angeles, London, Lyon, and Toronto. He lives and works in Visakhapatnam.
