Born in Odisha in 1981, Satyabhama Majhi is a Bhubaneswar-based artist trained in Traditional Art. Her practice is rooted in close observation of everyday life, drawing from early experiences within local market spaces, where rhythms of exchange, community, and coexistence quietly unfold.
Majhi’s work engages with the evolving condition of the city, particularly Bhubaneswar, as a site shaped by memory, transition, and gradual erasure. Moving between the personal and the collective, she reflects on how spaces carry traces of their inhabitants, and how these traces shift under the pressures of urbanisation and time.
Working with a restrained visual language, her practice attends to the vernacular where the ordinary reveals deeper cultural patterns, and where continuity and change exist in quiet tension.
A recipient of the State Award from Lalit Kala Akademi, Odisha, Majhi has participated in several national and international exhibitions, public art projects, and residencies, including the Vancouver Biennale and Odisha Biennale.
